Catalan is a Romance language spoken by about ten million people in Catalonia, Valencia, the Balearic Islands, Andorra, and the southern French region of Roussillon, with Andorra as its only sovereign-state status. Afrikaans is used daily in South African media, literature, and as a home language for several ethnic communities, including white Afrikaners and Coloured South Africans.
