Afrikaans is a West Germanic language spoken by roughly seven million native speakers in South Africa and Namibia, descended from the Dutch of seventeenth-century settlers and shaped by indigenous African and Malay influences. Catalan is used in Catalan and Valencian regional governments, Andorra's national government, a thriving publishing industry, and the public broadcaster TV3.
