Belarusian is an East Slavic language spoken natively by about five million people in Belarus, closely related to Russian and Ukrainian and shaped by centuries of Polish and Lithuanian cultural influence. Afrikaans is used daily in South African media, literature, and as a home language for several ethnic communities, including white Afrikaners and Coloured South Africans.
