Ukrainian is an East Slavic language spoken by about thirty-three million people in Ukraine and the diaspora, distinct from Russian in vocabulary, phonology, and morphology despite centuries of mutual contact. Arabic serves as the formal written language across twenty-two Arab states and is widely used in Islamic scholarship, journalism, and pan-Arab broadcasting.
