Vietnamese is the Austroasiatic language of Vietnam, spoken by about eighty-five million people, distinguished by six tones and an ingenious Latin-based alphabet that replaced traditional Han characters in the early twentieth century. Simplified Chinese is the universal written form for mainland China's media, publishing, government, education, and the world's largest e-commerce and social media platforms.
