Ukrainian is an East Slavic language spoken by about thirty-three million people in Ukraine and the diaspora, distinct from Russian in vocabulary, phonology, and morphology despite centuries of mutual contact. Russian is used across the Russian government, broadcasting, publishing, the substantial Russian gaming industry, post-Soviet regional content, and a global diaspora extending from Israel to Germany to the US.
