Vietnamese is the Austroasiatic language of Vietnam, spoken by about eighty-five million people, distinguished by six tones and an ingenious Latin-based alphabet that replaced traditional Han characters in the early twentieth century. Crossing from the Austroasiatic family into the Semitic family requires the translator to rebuild grammatical scaffolding from scratch, since these branches diverged thousands of years ago and share little inherited vocabulary.

Modern Standard Arabic is a critical translation target for reaching over four hundred million readers across the Arab League and a large global Muslim audience that uses Arabic for religious and formal contexts. Moving from Latin to Arabic script means handling RTL layout, contextual letter shaping, and the choice between phonetic transliteration and semantic adaptation of Western names and terms.

Vietnamese literature includes Nguyen Du's nineteenth-century epic poem The Tale of Kieu, the modernist short story master Nam Cao, and contemporary novelist Bao Ninh. Arabic serves as the formal written language across twenty-two Arab states and is widely used in Islamic scholarship, journalism, and pan-Arab broadcasting.
