Afrikaans literature took shape in the late nineteenth century and produced Nobel-laureate-adjacent figures like Etienne Leroux and the poet Ingrid Jonker, whose work Mandela later quoted at his inauguration. Croatian is used in Croatian government, EU institutions, a thriving publishing scene, and Croatia's significant tourism industry.
