Afrikaans is a West Germanic language spoken by roughly seven million native speakers in South Africa and Namibia, descended from the Dutch of seventeenth-century settlers and shaped by indigenous African and Malay influences. Armenian is used in Armenian government, broadcasting, the Armenian Apostolic Church, and a flourishing diaspora literature scene in North America and Europe.
